Dry Gas by PETROTAT – high quality molecular sieve for CNG

Over the last few years, CNG has become a real alternative to petrol. Today’s CNG satisfies engine manufacturers’ call for high-quality, powerful and economic fuel.

CNG typically needs to be dried to a minimum -70 C dew point. Depending on the climate this means that the gas has to contain less than a ½ PPM of water. To dry to this level, we recommend our 3A and 4A Molecular sieves.

Petrotat maintains a large quantity of molecular sieves in stock. Contact us for your CNG drying desiccant needs.

Products & Solutions:

Petrotat 3A Molecular Sieve is a synthetic crystalline aluminosilicate with a regular micropore structure. it is the potassium form of the type A crystal structure. Type 3A has an effective pore opening of about 3 angstroms (0.3nm). This is large enough to allow in moisture, but excludes molecules such as unsaturated hydrocarbons which can potentially form polymers; and this maximizes lifetime when dehydrating such molecules.

Petrotat 4A Molecular Sieve is a synthetic crystalline aluminosilicate with a regular micropore structure.; it is the sodium form of the Type A crystal structure. 4A molecular sieve has an effective pore opening of about 4 angstroms (0.4nm). 4A molecular sieve will adsorb most molecules with a kinetic diameter of less than 4 angstroms and exclude those larger. Such adsorbable molecules include simple gas molecules such as oxygen, nitrogen, carbon dioxide and straight chain hydrocarbons. Branched chain hydrocarbons and aromatics are excluded.

Petrotat activated alumina is a smooth sphere of activated alumina produced by  unique manufacturing process. Activated Alumina is an excellent desiccant for drying a wide variety of liquids and gases. Although all molecules are adsorbed to some extent on activated alumina, those molecules having the highest polarity are preferentially adsorbed. Stream conditions such as pressure, concentration and molecular weight of the molecules, temperature and site competing molecules affect the efficiency of adsorption. Activated Alumina is especially sutaible for heatless (PSA) air dryers.
