Condensate Polishing (CPU):

Hot condensate is sometimes contaminated with lubricants. These oils must be eliminated as thoroughly as possible prior to reuse of the condensate, particularly in high-pressure boilers. For high oil concentrations is it advisable to de-oil the condensate using a mechanical oil separator prior to treatment with activated carbon. Fine cleaning can then be accomplished through granular activated carbon.

Wastewater Treatment:

In wastewater treatment, activated carbon is mainly used for polishing purposes, following pre-treatment that includes solids removal and bio-treatment. Target compounds for the activated carbon include phenols, color bodies and non-biodegradable chemical oxygen demand (COD). Either GAC or PAC may be used. PAC is also used in biological PAC treatment, where activated carbon plays two roles as it both adsorbs contaminants from wastewaters and acts as a surface for beneficial microbes to attach to. The PAC adsorbs toxins that would be harmful to bacteria and in this way buffers the potential shock to the microbes from high concentration incoming loads of contaminants in wastewater.

NEERSORB™ C_SPL (AW) is an acid washed coconut shell based granular activated carbon produced by steam activation at 900 – 1100°C by through rotary kiln process. NEERSORB™ C_SPL (AW) is a super low ash activated carbon used in Condensate Polishing Unit (CPUs) where silica leaching is critical & chloride & Fe content should be minimal. NEERSORB™ C_SPL (AW) meets or exceeds IS, AWWA standards as well as NSF 61 for potable water treatment.

NEERSORB™  PREMIUM offers excellent adsorption properties and is recommended for removal of oil & grease, BOD, COD, phenols etc from effluent stream of hydrocarbon units.
